As venture capital investment in cleantech plummeted worldwide last year, Massachusetts firms bucked the trend, thanks to diversity in technology and several high-profile rounds. Bay State cleantech companies brought in $356 million in 27 VC deals last year, a 21 percent dollar-value increase over 2008, according to a report released last week by research firm The Cleantech Group LLC and business advisory firm Deloitte LLP. In North America, investment value fell to $3.5 billion — 42 percent less than 2008 and 17 percent less than 2007 — and globally VC cleantech investment fell 34 percent to $5.6 billion. areas along Route 128 from the 1960s to the 1980s, Route 128 came to symbolize the Boston high-tech community itself. However, today the industry has expanded significantly onto Interstate 495 as well, the next beltway out. 1 In local culture, Route 128 is seen as something of a dividing line between the inner municipalities of Greater Boston and the more far-flung suburbs. The road's roughly radius, for example, also delimits most of the area accessible by the MBTA rapid transit system. Much of the area within Route 128 was developed before World War II, while the area outside it was developed more recently. The south end ... Read More

Failure comes with the venture capitalist's job
As I was sitting with Nanocomp Technologies Inc. at the Mass High Tech All-Star Awards for innovation last October, I reflected on my life as an early-stage venture investor. Nanocomp is arguably on the verge of a tremendous value-building opportunity. If the company can continue to find resources for growth and maintain its lead, everyone — management, investors and employees — should do very well. It is said that a venture capitalist spends more time bemoaning failures than celebrating wins. In part, I suspect, that is because there are statistically more of the former than the latter. Is there a website which lists professional events around Boston ...
I am looking for a website which shows all professional events around: e.g. IEEE events, conferences, seminars, entrepreneurial events, trade shows, seminars, training, etc. I know some organizations like NeJUG, BostonCHI, SPIN, Mass High Tech, Webinno, MIT, meetup, eventbrite etc, publish their own events, but is there a website which aggregates all the information into one website? I saw www.bostoneventslist.com, but I am wondering if there are better websites? Member since: November 04, 2009 Total points: 2359 (Level 3) We maintain a Boston Events Calendar, sorted by category.
